GCSE Results 2019 – AGFS students raise the bar once again!
Students from Ark Greenwich Free School are celebrating another excellent set of GCSE results today with overall attainment increasing once again.
The benchmark Attainment 8 score has increased to 50.5 and remains well above national and LA averages. The overall Progress 8 score, once confirmed, is expected to be in line with or perhaps even stronger than last year when the school was placed in the top 30% of all schools nationally in this measure.
There was also an increase in the number of students entering and passing the ‘EBacc’ – a group of academic subjects that are particularly valued by top universities and employers. The EBacc average points score increased for the third consecutive year to 4.67, which is significantly above both national and LA averages.
The number of students achieving the benchmark score of 4 or better in English and Maths GCSEs (equivalent to a C) is 71% with 49% achieving a score of 5 or better. In English alone 81% of students achieved grade 5 or better with 32% achieving the top grade 7-9 category.
Ark Greenwich Free School Headteacher Rhys Spiers said: “It is fantastic to see students’ and teachers’ hard work paying off on results day. To improve further on the exceptional outcomes from last year, even given the new tougher examinations, is a great achievement for all involved at AGFS, putting our students in the strongest possible position to be able to go on and secure places at elite universities and professional careers of their choice.”
Among Ark Greenwich Free School’s strongest performers in this year’s GCSEs were:
- Jaynelle Osei achieved three Grade 9s and two Grade 8s
- Galin Mihaylov achieved two Grade 9s and three Grade 8s
- Benjamin Groom achieved one Grade 9 and six Grade 8s
- Rebecca Lister achieved one Grade 9 and five Grade 8s
