This year’s Black History Month event was a heartfelt celebration, beginning with a moving tribute to former student Kayin Nielsen. The sports hall was filled with students from all year groups—past and present—alongside teachers, family members, and the wider community. The incredible turnout was a true testament to the many lives Kayin touched.
Kayin had a deep love for performing, and in his honour, this year’s Black History Month concert was dedicated to him. The evening was a vibrant showcase of talent, featuring a diverse array of performances that spanned genres, generations, and cultures.
Highlights included a captivating contemporary lyrical solo by Nina Sammut, and a high-energy dance from the Dance Club, who brought Azonto to life with colour and flair. The Drama Club delivered a powerful spoken word piece celebrating Black historical heroes, while Elite Drama offered a fascinating insight into the story of the ‘Six Triple Eight’—a lesser-known but inspiring chapter of Black history.
Our musical acts continued to impress, with standout performances from bands in Years 8, 10, and 11, as well as solos from Olive (Year 7), Erik (Year 8), and Aaliyah (Year 10). Each act brought something unique to the stage, showcasing the incredible range and dedication of our students.
The evening was not only a celebration of Black history, but also of the incredible performing arts talent we have within our school. We are so proud of all our scholars who took part, and we already can’t wait for our upcoming Christmas Concert!
